Taylor Pitsilos is the owner of Designer Op Shop – and in our opinion is one of Canberras most stylish people.
Taylor is a key player in the op-shopping scene as she sets trends and shows fellow Canberrans how to op-shop in absolute style. Also a stylist,Taylor is highly influential the fashion scene in Canberra.
In a recent interview with the ‘Second-Hand Shopping Queen’, we asked Taylor a few questions regarding her style, fashion influences and overall outlook on the world of fashion.
1. Who are your style icons? Is there a particular fashion style that you follow?
I am definitely influenced by Rachel Zoe and Coco Chanel. Rachel Zoe literally lives and breathes the fashion world and her effortless yet captivating style is definitely evident of that. Coco Chanel – on a different scale – is eternal. She has changed the way women have dressed since the 20s, and her brand today stands stronger than ever.
In terms of my personal fashion sense, I don’t think there is a particular fashion style that I follow. I really do enjoy taking aspects of vintage and mixing it with great basics and on trend pieces that I like.
2. What were your fashion highlights for 2013?
Being a lover of all things designer, the Marc Jacobs’ SS13 show created for Louis Vuitton would definitely have to be a highlight of mine. The way he creatively designed the show was incredible, especially when he used matching models walking two by two, down a bank of four escalators onto a runway tessellated in giant squares of white and yellow inside the Louvre. Amazing!
Locally however, I think Canberra’s fashion scene has really grown this year. We’ve welcomed Zara with open arms, and patiently waited for the impressive transformation of David Jones in the city. A big highlight though would have to be the ever-growing Lonsdale St in Braddon and the way in which it has become a destination for unique fashion.
3. What are you most enjoying wearing at the moment?
At the moment I’m absolutely loving the modern adaption of silk kimonos. I am a sucker for comfortable clothes and the eccentric patterns making them great to wear with a pair of jeans. They are perfect for the Canberra weather too. I’m also enjoying the comeback of white for this summer.
4. What trends do you love to see and wear?
What I love seeing most is when people take aspects of a trend that suits them and they make it their own. I personally think that individual style is the best trend someone could wear. As far as on-trend pieces, I am loving the use if transparency and monochrome.
5. What are some of your favourite brands and why?
One of my favourite brands is Sass & Bide, I can’t get enough of their jeans and tees but their whole collection, season after season, has never failed to amaze me. They are a great Australian brand supporting many international charities. I also love Cameo the Label, Nicholas, and Bec & Bridge.
At the mere age of 20, Taylor has climbed up the fashion scale with the ownership of her store, fashion qualifications from the FBI Fashion School and an unbelievable knowledge and passion for the industry. We look forward to seeing what Taylor has in store for 2014, and we are sure she will blow us away with her eye for style.
