Designer Gina Poulakis, says her influences are from the 1940s to mid-1970s—eras she adores. Pencil skirts and wiggle dresses are some of Gina’s favorite shapes.
As a designer and maker, Gina is a proud manufacturer of sustainable garments. She sources fabrics from pre-existing vintage clothing which she disassembles and recreates into a garment or vintage fabric stripped from an existing object, such as a lounge, cushions and curtains.
Gina’s design aesthetic is referential, feminine and sexy, emphasising form and classic silhouette. G. Ginchy specialises in creating beautiful garments for petite women, from size 6, who want to look curvaceous. These women adore quality clothing that makes them look more fulsome.
Q. Thinking back on 2013, what goals have you achieved that you are most proud of?
One of my greatest achievements for 2013 was fitting my design and garment, by the second toile. Usually when fitting, it takes me a few toiles to get it right. This was the confirmation I needed to reaffirm that everything is on track.
Q. What is on the agenda for G. Ginchy in 2014?
G. Ginchy will be showing at FASHFEST on Thursday, 1 May. Preparation and construction has already begun within my collaborative work space/store at Three Little Birds & Little Boy Blue, Hotel Hotel NewActon.
Q. What does it mean to you to be participating as a designer in FASHFEST 2014?
It means a lot since getting through the application process means I am appreciated and recognised as a Canberra creative designer. It’s going to be an amazing experience seeing my designs on the catwalk.
