In a colourful twist, married duo Lovers Electric have been added to the ‘Australia Day Live’ line-up, bringing a theatrical boy-girl melodrama, reminiscent of 60’s pop.
Fresh of their ‘Boutique Tour’ Lover’s Electric has performed at every hot, exclusive and quirky boutique in Sydney and Melbourne.
The duo’s link to the fashion industry is strong, with songstress Eden discovering her talents as a Designer, with her own label Eden Honeydew before she ever turned muso-minded.
“Eden keeps Eden Honeydew going in addition to the band,” David Turley said. “It’s really complimenting and she makes her own dresses for our shows.”
Still largely ‘unknown’ to the mainstream, Lover’s Electric is set to add colour and oomph to Australia Day Live.
“We are stoked to be performing at the front of Parliament House. There is something so exciting about being in a place where lots of big decisions are made for the rest of the country.”
These Adelaiders tuned Londeners, turned Adelaiders shared paddling pool moments before they could even sing.
“Our families were friends but we didnt know eachother for a number of years in the middle, we met when we were 7 and the rumour is we played together when we were 2 or 3.”
Love came first and music came second for the theatrical duo.
“We got married, fell in love and a couple of years later I wrote Eden into a couple of things that i was doing musically. We were both in a street theatre company too and loved working together and being creative.”
What were these sugar-coated love birds doing last Australia Day?
“We were at home in Adelaide and there was defiantly a BBQ involved!” This year’s festivities will be a nice contrast for the pair, with 30,000 people expected for the show.
“Australia Day is a mixed bag for us. It’s a mix of being really proud and wanting more for this country. I hope that over time people can become more embracing of different cultures.”
“The apology was such an important moment for our nation, but you still don’t see Indigenous people in the centre of Sydney, the segregation is still there.”
The full Australia Day line-up includes; Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Trial Kennedy, Jessica Mauboy, Dan Kelly & The Ukeladies, Wendy Matthews, Gurrumul, Brian Cadd, John Schumann and the Vagabond Crew and of course, Lovers Electric.
Lovers Electric is set to release their next single on 7th February through Itunes.
