Re-Loved 2: Spring/Summer 2009, will showcase exactly what it suggests; re-loved, revived and reworked fashions with an environmentally friendly aesthetic in mind.
Mother and daughter duo, Hanny and Lee Dewar (Fashion Design Graduate), launched Re-Loved early this year through the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Design Space. They presented their own clothing and accessory designs in an eclectic fashion parade, along with fashions found at the Salvation Army and clothing exchanges around Canberra.
The event sparked from an idea to promote the Salvation Army through sustainable fashion. Through the positive support and involvement of the community they have set up for Re-Loved 2.
“Re-loved 2 is taking a fresh angle this time around. We chose to use Spring/Summer as the theme. We have more designers involved this time, with the focus being on their original creations. There won’t be any shop bought pre-loved clothing on show this time.”
The duo approached several designers who they thought might be interested in designing sustainable fashion and the recycling cause. While other designers approached them, keen for a new challenge.
Designers were given the brief to create a collection of wearable, ready to wear fashion created primarily from recycled resources inspired by Spring/ Summer 2009. All we given 4-5months to design a collection of 5 or more pieces.
“Given that most of the designers have gone through the fashion course at CIT, the expectations are very high. We expect a high standard in both workmanship and quality of materials used. Wearability remains a high priority to promote sustainable fashion as beautiful and accessible to a wider range of consumers.”
Re-Loved 2 will be held on the 22nd of October at Craft ACT. The event is free to the public, and some garments and accessories will be available for sale on the night. The venue will be open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.
