CIT Fashion Design graduate, Anthony Capon, showed the nation what Canberra style was made of when he won Project Runway Australia, last Thursday night.

Anthony Capon’s all-black collection showed attitude; with great texture, layers and interesting silhouettes – cemented him as the young designer to watch!

The androgynous 25 year old, with meters of personality, completed his Bachelor of Fashion Design at Canberra Institute of Technology in 2005. Anthony inherited his interest in fashion from his adoptive mother, who lectures in fashion design, and at the young age of 7, Anthony set out to make his mother a dress from her fabric scraps.

The 5 ft nothing designer worked casually at Sportsgirl in the Canberra Centre, describes his personal style as ‘black, layered and textured.’

“After CIT, I moved straight to Melbourne, literally 2 weeks after graduating.

Canberra is quite reserved, however there are lots of young creative designers there who want to change that.”

Now a Melbourne based, competitive designer on his own right, Anthony possesses a unique design aesthetic that equates to urban, wearable art.

With no plans to return to Canberra now the show has finished, Anthony has his sights set internationally.

“I’d love to say I’d open a shop in Canberra, but my market is more Berlin than Canberra.. but we will see.”
