Sharon has 2 children and always tried her very best to dress them well. After moving to Canberra a couple of years ago, she struggled with the sparse fashion options for children on the local retail market. So Sharon solved the problem.
Excited, yet nervous, Sharon left a 20 year-long nursing career in the past as she endeavoured to create a little person’s wonderland, the forever sunny and cheerful Chi Koo Kid’s. Thanks to Sharon- Mum’s, Dad’s, uncles and aunts can now enjoy the luxury of dressing their little treasure in Australian designer labels, and now- Sharon’s children are too, impeccably dressed.
“I always loved dressing my kids in beautiful things, but they were so hard to find! My customers now tell me how great it is to see a shop specialising in Children’s wear.” Sharon said.
Chi Koo Kids has comfortably filled a gigantic hole in the local retail market, which before, consisted only of baby shops. “There are a few baby boutiques in Canberra, but they specialise in baby’s wear and don’t do a wide range up to a large size.”
Since opening her adorable boutique in Mawson only 3 months ago, Sharon has been dancing in her element, helping mums, dads and family members find something special for their little prince or princess.
“The clothes are quality fabrics, linen and other natural fibres. It’s just, Children’s fashion, and that was formally unseen in Canberra boutiques.”
Only days ago, Sharon lined her shelves with the mini-designer threads of ‘Big by Fiona Scanlan.’ Sharon excitedly tells me that Chi Koo will be the excusive stockist of the edgy label by Co-Founder of Scanlan & Theodore. “We will be stocking sizes 2-8yrs, easy to wear fun kid’s clothes.”
The cheerful lime green walls of Chi Koo Kids is also lined with the mini-wares of Edenstar, eeni meeni miini moh, Mill and Mia, Monstar Kids and many more quality kids labels.
In addition to clothing, Sharon also stocks shoes, hair accessories, baby gifts, bags, underwear, and swimwear.
Chi Koo Kid’s range respects the varying opinions of mothers, fathers and families by offering the right mix of both traditional and modern looks, many up to a size 15.
Sharon stands heads above the rest for the quality product she offers, all comfortable for children to run, jump and play in. “The style we offer is different to Myer and other department stores. It’s mostly designed and made in Australia, exclusive rather than mass produced and the quality is exceptional.”
What’s next for Sharon? “I wanna open another store!” Her lively attitude and the way she interacts with her little and big customers ensures Chi Koo will be cherished and appreciated for years to come.
Not attempting to restrain her excitement; Sharon squeals as she rips open a box of new stock to reveal the most delicately adorable skirts with playful floral swirls. There may not be any more children on the horizon for Sharon and her family, but through Chi Koo Kid’s she can indulge her love of all things little everyday, and help other mum’s dress their littlies in the finest threads around.
