Proudly supporting CIT floristry students with their future careers, the Hyatt Hotel Canberra is welcoming bright and unique floral gown displays and installations to their hotel for two weeks, from Tuesday 2 November.

The CIT students were challenged to design floral gowns that recreated the natural environment conceptually and through materials, whilst aligning with the spring season and the tradition of Floriade in Canberra. All these elements also had to respond to the theme Biome, meaning a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna.

“We’re delighted to be displaying these beautiful floral gowns designed by CIT floristry students. For most of them, it’s their first time exhibiting their work in public and it’s very special for us to be supporting them,” said Hyatt Hotel Canberra General Manager, Adam Myott.

“Creating these spectacular pieces for a unique purpose and displaying them in public gives students a taste of what their careers will look like following their studies which is key to helping them envision their career pathways.”

After a challenging two years, CIT Floristry Teacher, Narelle Phillips is excited for the students to show off their creativity and hard work.

“They have taken all the changes, restrictions, cancellations, and pivoting on the chin and are delighted to be finally presenting their creative work in public,” she said.

Offering a space for students to showcase their work two years in a row, the Hyatt Hotel has presented great opportunities for those who missed out on having their work displayed at Floriade like previous students.

“Students were able to dream up an amazing creation but then needed to put in the work in to make it happen, and that’s exactly what they’re going to experience as they enter the industry as qualified florists,” said Ms Phillips.

These beautiful floral gowns and installations are now available to view at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra in the foyer and Tea Lounge. Book a table now and enjoy a meal and the great work of this year’s students.
