The National Museum of Australia is ending 2021 on a high and starting 2022 with a bang, displaying a new exhibition centred around the world of Ancient Greece. Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes explores competition through sport, politics, drama, music and warfare, illuminated through more than 170 projects from the British Museum. From 17 December 2021 to 1 May 2022, the Museum invites you to discover and celebrate all things Greek, with a range of special events to support the exhibition.
One of the highlights will be Luka Lesson‘s Agapi & Other Kinds of Love. In this dynamic performance, Luka draws on his Greek heritage and Plato’s The Symposium to search for the meaning of love. Part poetic monologue, part rap and part history lesson, Agapi explores the power of love in both the ancient and the modern world.
Known for his poetry and hip-hop projects, Luka’s work speaks to his Greek heritage and incorporates the mythology and history of his family homeland. He has toured with performers such as Australian writer Omar Musa, British rappers Akala and Lowkey and New Zealand musician Tiki Taane, and has worked with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the National Gallery of Victoria. Luka is also the founder of creative outfit, The Future Ancients.
Agapi & Other Kinds of Love will be performed from Wednesday 27 April to Friday 29 April 2022 at 8-9:30pm.
