The Canberra Labor Club Group is setting a new standard for clubs in the ACT, with the announcement of an iconic addition to the group.

Undergoing a major transformation, Central Social Club will take over from the City Labor Club right next door on the corner of Petrie Plaza and City Walk in Civic.

Since trading in its current location since 2006, the City Labor Club will close its doors for the last time on Sunday 16 April, to make way for a new and exciting opportunity.

“The City Labor Club was ground-breaking at that time and after many great years of service, 2023 sees a positive step forward,” says Central Social Club Venue Manager, Jim Webster.

While Central Social Club promises the same friendly service and great atmosphere, it too brings an elevated experience, from the design through to dining and beverage options.

Led by renowned chef and 2022 AHA ACT Chef of the Year, Sam McCarthy, the brasserie-style menu will have both premium club classics as well as pizzas, pasta and a great range of vegetarian options. The beverage list has also undergone an exciting transformation, with a new local-leaning wine, beer and cocktail menu.

“Through the menu, my aim is to bring our members and guests an elevated dining experience that is approachable, family-friendly and uses as much local produce as possible,” says McCarthy.

With nostalgic touches of your classic club environment, the interior has been designed to enable a comfortable hospitality experience. With an impressive bar taking centre stage, natural light floods through the venue, incorporating high-seated bar options and cosy private dining.

“Clubs in the ACT are one of our purist representations of Australian culture; it is important that we maintain that identifiable quality and the new offering provided by the Canberra Labor Club at the Central Social Club venue has certainly provided an exciting new addition to the group,” says Control Space Director and Architect, Jessica White.

In the heart of Canberra, the club is the perfect spot to catch up with colleagues, friends and family, whether it be a pre-theatre bite to eat, after-work drinks or a special occasion.

Open seven days a week from 9am to late, Central Social Club will open on Tuesday 18 April 2023.
