Dairy Road in Fyshwick has quietly been flourishing with new restaurants, cafes and bars opening in the precinct. A unique mix of a Japanese eatery, iconic brewery, coffee shop, cellar door and more, you don’t need to work or live nearby to find yourself in the area.

Capital Brewing Co.

Starting out by introducing the best craft beer in Australia to Canberrans in a small pub, owners of Capital Brewing Co decided to brew their own ‘good-natured brews’ and opened a brewery in Fyshwick. Since then, they have worked hard to create beers out of fresh, natural ingredients that minimise their impact on the environment where possible, becoming Australia’s first Climate Active certified 100% carbon neutral brewery. If you’re visiting their taproom, enjoy beer tastings of their core range as well as special and seasonal releases with a burger from Canberra’s favourite Brodburger food truck. Most recently acquiring Batlow Cider, if you’re not a fan of beer, get a crisp apple cider on tap.

Brodburger

From the flame-grilled patty down to the housemade aioli, Brodburger’s menu speaks for itself. An institution and for good reason, Canberrans can never seem to get enough of this iconic staple. With several locations in Canberra, Dairy Road being one of them, the team have partnered with Capital Brewing Co by opening a food truck inside the brewery to bring the ultimate burger and brew combo to you! With so much to love, and the perfect ratio of it all, you’ll find most don’t have just one favourite burger as there are many on high rotation.

Canteen

An evolution of local pop-up Ramen Daddy, Canteen operates as a ramen bar by day and izakaya by night. Perfect for a quick bowl of their famous Tori style ramen for lunch, post-work drinks or a warm and cosy dinner, Canteen offers everything from ramen, rice bowls, sandos, snacks and an extensive sake menu.

Contentious Character

Producing cool-climate wines with distant views of the mountains, single vineyard Contentious Character has a range of different experiences and wines to enjoy in their cellar door in Dairy Road. Open for tastings and all-day dining in the restaurant, for lunch and dinner, enjoy their seasonal menu with your favourite bottle or a tasting flight, or sit at the tasting table and choose from a range of experiences that best showcase the vineyard.

Lonsdale Street Roasters

Producing and serving delicious infrared roasted coffee, Lonsdale Street Roasters in Dairy Road is boosting your morning mood with the perfect coffee and brekky. Order from their wide range of single origin and blends and pair it with a pastry, egg & bacon roll or toasted sandwich.

Ambrosia Lounge

Starting as a local distillery, Ambrosia has extended their offering to a Greek mythology themed bar where cocktails reign supreme. Located just down the road from their distillery, Ambrosia Lounge is Dairy Road’s newest spot for after-work and late-night drinks. The lounge will showcase Ambrosia’s ethos for quality and uniquely flavoured spirits that turn into bespoke cocktails, mixed drinks, and enjoyable shots. Creating a menu that centres around the drinks rather than the food, expect a high-quality snack and share plate menu of charcuterie boards and cheese platters including a soft burrata and an oven-baked brie.

Big River Distilling Co.

Artisan distillery, Big River Distilling Co. creates spirits that reflect the unique Canberra environs, with uncompromising quality ingredients from Australia and afar. Specialising in gin, shop their dry, cinnamon, mandarin and pink gin, as well as vodka and a fig gin liqueur. At their Dairy Road cellar door, learn and taste the magic of the distillery with a guided tour and tasting, or enjoy a relaxing afternoon sampling their spirit range with a tasting paddle and grazing board, chocolate and flight tasting or signature cocktails.
