While Canberra’s new state-of-the-art rowing facility on Black Mountain Peninsula might have flown under your radar, we bring news of a new café in the same space, headed by the team who brought you Agostinis.

Café Sosta, by Bisa Hospitality (also Joe’s Bar and Occasioni by Agostinis), is located in the Red Shed, a new venture by Community Rowing and part of the Black Mountain Rowing Club.

Located on John Cardiff Close with gorgeous views of Lake Burley Griffin, the café will offer an all-day dining menu from 7am until 2pm with the group’s signature Italian influence. As well as catering for conferences and events.

“Having a busy rowing schedule with rowers moving in and out of the shed daily and local Canberrans riding bikes, running, and walking around the lake, we wanted to offer a place to take a break, stop and replenish. Hence, we named the space Café Sosta – Sosta being the Italian noun to take a break, to pause & to stop!” Says Owner, Dion Bisa.

Designed by Bisa Hospitality’s Culinary Director, Chef Francesco Balestrieri, for brekky expect dishes like Montasio cheese Frico with eggs, potato and tomato, and Pane della Casa with classic toppings such as cherry tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil. Meanwhile, the lunch menu will include spaghetti pomodoro with burrata and Fattoush salad.

“Having the opportunity to run a café and hold events right on Lake Burley Griffin’s edge was one we couldn’t resist. The view at The Red Shed is spectacular, and such a unique venue for weddings, special birthdays, and corporate events,” says Bisa.

Whether you find yourself rowing, riding or walking around Black Mountain Peninsula, Café Sosta is now open, greeting you with the aroma of a freshly ground espresso, baked goods and an Italian-inspired menu.
