Hackett Shops has been a ghost town for years, with IGA the sole source of traffic for this inner north local shopping centre. The suburb’s prime location means it’s always had the potential to be a bustling local shopping area, with Watson Shops, Ainslie and Dickson all showing suburban success.

Thankfully Wilbur’s Cafe has swept in, launching their Cafe/Bar out the back of shops. Situated against an urban graffiti art wall, Wilbur’s has that cosy and unique feel we love about suburban cafes.

The menu is non-pretentious cafe style, with a Mediterranean edge. The Wilburger is a hit with locals; Scotch fillet, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheese, BBQ sauce and served with fries. Dinner brings a more sophisticated edge, with ‘Chicken Breast,’ stuffed with ricotta, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, parmesan, mozzarella, with a red wine glaze, served with wedges. Oysters are also available by the 1/2 Dozen and the venue is fully licensed.

If you need another reason to try, there’s also a range of homemade cakes and cookies, plus the coffee is a real treat.

Wilbur’s Cafe is located at 14 Hackett Place, Hackett, Ph (02) 6262 5406. Open 7 days for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Stay tuned to OutInCanberra for photos, menus and more.
