Stepping into Tilley’s Divine Cafe is like finding yourself lost in an underground Jazz lounge in Paris. The furniture bares a lived in feel that adds instant warmth, the decor in tones of deep red and elegant dark timber adds certain sexiness to the establishment. Low ceiling fans, an impressive line of red wine and a semi circular stage in a mini theatre setting beckons the senses and the initial reaction is you’re not in Canberra anymore.

When La Cantina opened at the Narrabundah shops in February this year, I became an immediate fan. The traditional Italian atmosphere, comprehensive wine list, delicious home style meals and spot on service made it one of my favourite restaurants in Canberra. So when I heard La Cantina had recently unveiled a new summer menu, I couldn’t get there fast enough to try it.

I arrived on one of those hot, Canberra summer nights and found relief in the cool interior, thanks to the famous La Cantina Roman brick walls.

Beside the track the revellers gathered as the sun threatened to appear behind the clouds. Organisers of the 3rd Trackside festival had prepared many a stage, beverage and wrestler for an eager Canberra crowd.

The challenge had been laid down by Stonefest, and the day promised to be full of good music and great times as winners of the Triple J Unearthed Competition, Hoodlum Shouts opened up on the outdoor stage. Hailing from Canberra, they proved with songs such as ‘History’s End’ that they have the staying power for the Australian music scene.

Canberran designer, Sara Wurcker, has been busy hunting, gathering and sewing, since graduating from Bachelor of Design at CIT last year.

Unlike many of our graduates jumping ship to the bright lights of Sydney and Melbourne, sketchbook in hand, high hopes in mind, Sara has set out to pave her own future, within the landscape of Canbera fashion.
