Perhaps just in time to stock up on speciality produce for Christmas, Belconnen’s new Capital Food Market has announced it will open its door this week on Wednesday 13 December.

The highly anticipated opening of the food market has no doubt been on the radar of many hungry Canberrans who live around the corner and those who used to make the once-a-week trip. And now, refreshing the Belconnen Markets precinct with a European-inspired food hall, the new market will see an urban mix of vendors, from long-standing independent traders to new leading fresh food providores and casual dining options.

Welcoming back old favourites, Tom’s Superfruits, Sea Harvest, Market Meats, Knead Patisserie, Natural Living, Deli Cravings, Chicken Coop and Book Passion will begin trading in their brand-new residence on Wednesday. While newcomers including Three Mills Bakery, Bestore Asian Grocer, Gormans Florist, Asian Savoury and Sweet Business Healthy Living will be among the 40 traders to also call the Capital Food Market home.

“We recognise and pay tribute to Belconnen Markets’ history as a cornerstone of this community for over 40 years,” says Co-Head of Real Estate for Elanor Investors Group, Michael Baliva.

To celebrate the refresh, the market will be flourishing with live entertainment, cooking demonstrations by Luciano from My Kitchen Rules and kids face painting from Wednesday 13 to Sunday 17 December from 10-2pm. Customers who spend $50 across multiple transactions will also receive their choice of a picnic set or charcuterie serving board.

Completion of the multi-million-dollar project is a key milestone for the multi-stage master plan envisioned by Elanor Investors Group for the expansive three-hectare site.

“The new Capital Food Market will carry on this legacy for many decades to come, providing a unique food offering for Canberra’s residents and visitors to explore and enjoy all year round,” says Baliva.

The mixed-use precinct will encompass future stages comprising residential dwellings to complement the available food retail and service amenities, with freshness and local spirit at its core.

“We encourage our community to enjoy the new Capital Food Market hall, providing a place for shopping, leisure, enjoyment and local connection as we continue to introduce new fresh traders over the coming months”, says Baliva.

The Capital Food Market will be open from Wed-Sun, 8am-6pm. To find out more, visit https://capitalfoodmarket.com.au/
