The Last Emperor chronicles the incredible tale of China’s last emperor Pu Yi.

Born behind the gates of the Forbidden City into the imperial dynasty, Pu Yi started his life with a royal upbringing. At the tender age of 3 he was bestowed Emperor of China.

The Emperor was ousted during the tumultuous period of the early Chinese Republic which resulted in his exile and he was then returned to China as puppet emperor Manchukuo under the Japanese rule.

Pu Yi was married to The Empress Wan Rong and then remarried later in life to civilian, Li Shuxian. After being granted an official pardon, Pu Yi lived the remainder of his life in China as an ordinary civilian under Mao Zedong until his death in 1967.

The Last Emperor, choreographed by Ivan Cavallari, is a European-orientated modern ballet performed by China’s leading ballet company the Liaoning Ballet. The Last Emperor is an exquisite display of an incredible tale based on the true story of China’s Last Emperor.
