On Thursday the 10th of July the AIS arena was transformed into the year’s hottest dance studio as those crazy kids from So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) popped, tapped and krumped their way through the cold winter night.
Series favourites Jack, Rhys Demi and Kate were joined by the other six members of the SYTYCD top 10 in the stage spectacular which is currently on a national tour.
Each member of the top 10 family performed their favourite and most memorable routines from the first series as well as their favourite solo dances.
Many times the audience were left breathless as Australia’s best dancers took to the floor. Highlights of the evening included Vanessa and Henry’s African dance, Kate and Grahame’s heartbreaking routine about the end of a relationship set to Coldplay, and Jack and Rhys’ musical theatre performance accompanied by All That Jazz from the musical Chicago.
The SYTYCD Top 10 are natural performers whose acts were only enhanced on the night by dazzling wardrobe designs. Sequences, lace, sparkling silver ties, set against svelte exposed toned torsos kept everyone on the edges of their seats.
Before each individual performance a highlights package of each member’s time on the show delighted audience showing their high and lowlights, the range of their artistic abilities and also documented how each performer had grown as a dancer, something that was not lost on the young aspiring dancers in the audience.
One of the most prominent messages to come out of the evening was that all of the dancers are living proof of how dreams can come true if you believe and don’t lose the faith.
SYTYCD series one awoke the dancing feet of Australians and now that auditions will soon be underway to find Australia’s next top dancer we can only wait to see whose dancing shoes will amaze us next.
