Whether you love a crisp apple cider or a refreshing Australian craft brew, this one’s for you. Canberra’s own Capital Brewing Co. has announced it will be taking one of the country’s most authentic and recognised cider brands, Batlow Cider, under its wing.

Batlow has always been a favourite and a staple across the Capital Brewing pub, so naturally, founders Tom Hertel and Laurence Kain were drawn to its location being so close to Canberra as well as their alignment on environmental values.

“The brand’s attention to quality and authenticity is something we have always strived to achieve with our Capital brews,” says Kain.

“One of the things we love about Batlow Cider is that it’s made from imperfect fruit that would not normally make it to supermarket shelves and may otherwise become a waste product,” he adds.

Through Capital Brewing Co’s acquisition, the team is committed to increasing production of cider, in turn decreasing their waste product, plus with Batlow being so close they will be reducing existing freight and the overall carbon footprint to make the product in their brewery here in Fyshwick.

“We have a strong focus on operating in a socially and environmentally responsible way and are committed to reducing waste throughout our supply chains, so it’s incredibly important we continue this with the way we operate Batlow Cider,” says Kain.

A brand rich in Australian history and heritage, the pair ensure the recipe Aussies know and love won’t be changing, with the cider continuing to be made from only Batlow apples.

“We are absolutely thrilled to see Batlow Cider moving into the Capital Brewing Co’s custodianship. We have long been impressed with the marketing and sales capability of Capital Brewing Co and we look forward to seeing the Batlow brand continue to grow alongside their high-quality beers,’ says owners of Batlow Cider, Rich and Sam Coombes.
