Sip sip hooray, its international beer day (hey that rhymes). The only appropriate way to celebrate is to have a beer (or two!) of course. Why not support local as you celebrate by heading to one of our three local, award winning breweries?
1. Bentspoke
48/38 Mort St, Braddon ACT 2612
Bentspoke’s list of achievements is impressive, but not surprising given head brewer Richard Watkin’s reputation for pushing the boundaries of his craft. Earlier this year their Crankshaft beer was named top 3 in Australia’s Top 100 beers for the second year running.
And while their beer is incredible, it’s their menu which incorporates their brewery-made beer in unexpected and delicious ways that makes Bentspoke the perfect place to celebrate this frothy day.
Choose from their Bent Nachos, topped with baked beans made with Braddon Bitter, a malty and (surprise, surprise) bitter, hand pumped combo. Or warm up with the Pie of the Day, served with a Descent 19 gravy. Other beers that have been “sauce-ified” include the Braddon Bitter BBQ and the GFG Chilli Mayo.
2. Capital Brewing
Building 3/1 Dairy Rd, Fyshwick ACT 2609
Out in Dairy Road exists a little hub of co-working, climbing and Capital Brewing Co. When you step through the doors, the first thing you’ll see are the giant silver vats lining the back wall. Go behind the scenes on one of their exclusive brewery tours and learn how they turn malt, hops, water and yeast into the delicious beer you hold in your hand. Tours run every Saturday and Sunday at 2pm and 4pm, places are limited so make sure you book online!
3. Zierholz Premium Brewery
7/19-25 Kembla St, Fyshwick ACT 2609
Since 2005, Zierholz has been brewing German inspired craft beers, with a Canberra twist. Although you can find their beers on tap throughout the capital, to truly experience Zeirholz you need to visit their premium brewery in Fyshwick. With 7 beers in their current rotation and a range of delicious German menu options this is some of the most flavoursome beer, right in your backyard.
4. Canbeera Explorer Tour
Do you identify as a cicerone? Why not visit all three of the breweries in one day on a Canbeera Explorer brewery tour! Led by Dave’s Brewery Tours, you’ll have the opportunity to sample a range of one-of-a-kind Australian beers and enjoy a great lunch at either the Old Canberra Inn or The Durham Castle Arms (depending on availability). Tickets cost $160 and available to purchase here. Participants must be aged 18+.
