Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery, and treachery, Broadway’s longest-running musical is kickstarting its Canberra stay this weekend, performing for the remainder of the month.

CHICAGO, the International multi-award-winning musical will be at the Canberra Theatre Centre from 7-29 September, bringing with it all the smash hit songs from the 70s classic.

In this Aussie rendition, the musical stars Anthony Warlow (The Phantom of the Opera) as Billy Flynn, Zoë Ventoura (Packed to the Rafters) as Velma Kelly, Lucy Maunder (Mary Poppins) as Roxie Hart, Aussie comedy icon Peter Rowsthorn (Kath and Kim) as Amos Hart, and Asabi Goodman as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.

Created by theatre talents John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, CHICAGO tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover. Desperate to avoid conviction, she tricks the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal layers Billy Flynn to transform her crime into sensational headlines.
