The Royal Canberra Show is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the nation’s capital. This weekend from the 24 to 26 of February at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), Canberrans can enjoy special events, competitions, exciting shows, rides and a wide variety of show bags with some new and never-before-seen happenings on offer.
The Canberra Show is the ACT’s largest all-ages event and is tailored to groups and families in many ways. Whether it’s adrenaline pumping shows in the main arena such as freestyle motocross, to new events around the grounds like Canberra’s Strongest Man and Woman Competitions, to the Harvest Hall or thrill rides in Sideshow Alley, there is something for everyone. This year, there are over 25 rides ranging from $6 – $15 including the Ghost Train, Music Trip, Cha Cha, Shockwave, Dodgem Cars and many more to make your insides churn!
The produce competition and Harvest Hall are what make The Royal Canberra Show so special to many Canberrans, as country and city unite. There are many opportunities to meet cute and fluffy animal friends throughout the weekend, as well as sheering, pig racing, milk demonstrations and live music.
The community stage is a new feature of the show this year, that will host singing, dancing, art, and storytelling from different cultures of all ages. A full schedule of the performances is available at Support Your Community. There will also be a new multicultural food precinct on offer to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity and additional entertainment to what we’ve all come to know and love from the show is available throughout the grounds, including the Farmer Gets A Bride Competition and an impressive horse show based on agility and speed from the Mounted Games Association.
Of course, Canberra’s biggest show of the year wouldn’t be complete without something for the kids. This year an array of children’s rides will be available, as well as an unimaginable selection of show bags to enjoy, including Angry Birds, Frozen, AFL, Avengers, Barbie, Batman, Cadbury, Star Wars and Hubba Bubba. And to top things off, there will be firework displays at 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
