UC M.U.S.I.C 2020 Performance Night – Thursday 3 December
The Musician Unite Showcasing Innovative Creations (M.U.S.I.C.) is a social club dedicated to provide a space for the community at UC to create, collaborate and share music in entrepreneurial and innovative interdisciplinary projects. Canberra Sinfonia presents NATALIE NICOLAS & LACHNER – Saturday 5 December
Delight in two pieces by Australian composer Natalie Nicolas, The Business of Recovery and The End. Both originally written for string quartet, Natalie has reinvented them specifically for this Canberra Sinfonia performance, bringing out a range of joyous and reflective moods for this special Canberra premiere. Then you’ll be captivated by Franz Lachner’s Nonet, a superbly crafted but little-known masterpiece with all the hallmarks of a symphony, yet the gorgeous intimacy of a chamber ensemble. Lachner shows Romantic musicality and style at its finest, carrying all of the melodic joy and elegance that can be heard in similar timeless works by Beethoven, Schubert or Brahms.
The Blue Tones Specials Live at The Austrian Club – Friday 11 December
A great night lined up for you with the Blue Tone Specials playing the Austrian club.Steve Hartnett with his faithful offsider Matt Fitzgerald never cease to entertain with their renditions of classic blues tunes, and a few of their own thrown in for good measure. They will be joined on stage with the very capable rhythm section, with Doug Curry on Bass and Bernie Keenan on drums.

Wolves in the Pines – Black Cypress and Skinny Wolf– Saturday 12 December
Borne of dark and chimeric folk blues, Black Cypress pay a melodic homage to the savage and beautiful. Inspired by remote wilderness areas, this three-piece band mesh dynamic acoustic blues, with instinctive vocal harmonies and incisive violin reveries. Black Cypress challenge us with bootlegged and bowlegged folk tales of the struggle to satisfy a twisted and unapologetic longing for wildness and love.
Skinny Wolf are a singing/songwriting duo based in Canberra. With a diverse musical background, their music spans dreamy folk, indie pop and blues.

Canberra’s 76th Carols by Candlelight at Stage 88 – Saturday 12 December
Each year, Woden Valley Youth Choir take on the enormous but rewarding task of putting on Canberra’s Carols by Candlelight at Stage 88. This has been our gift to the Canberra community for 23 years and a most special evening for the choristers and families. We now have official approval to run a Covid-safe event this year on Saturday December 12.
This year, Carols by Candlelight will be a ticketed event for 2000 people. Ticket costs will be minimal to cover the extra infrastructure we need to run the event safely. We excited to announce that the event will also be Livestreamed on Facebook by ABC Local Radio, who are our event partner for the very first time. And in super-exciting news, we are delighted to announce that our guest artist this year is Lucy Sugerman, a young Canberra singer/songwriter.
