Shining a spotlight on the Nation’s Capital, the beloved Enlighten Festival attracts thousands each year, which is why it was no surprise when they were awarded Favourite Event & Attraction for the 2021 People’s Choice Awards. Celebrating culture and creativity through a jam-packed program of diverse events and entertainment, for 17 days each March, Canberra comes alive!
From art, music, food, entertainment and unique experiences, Enlighten caters to every Canberran and interstate traveller. Enjoy mouth-watering Asian eats at the Night Noodle Markets, savour the picturesque morning view of the Balloon Spectacular, watch locally made films at Lights! Canberra! Action! And so much more, including pop ups like the Secret Gin Garden and Van Gogh Alive.
However, one that never ceases to amaze us is the Enlighten Illuminations. Each year, the incredible installations that light up prominent buildings and transform some of our favourite sites in Canberra are like none you’ve ever seen before. Offering a unique perspective and relaying artist’s expressions, a tour finding each site is well worth the visit (and the picture)!
Executive Branch Manager of Events ACT, Ross Triffitt says it’s how Enlighten takes over the city that makes it so remarkable.
“It’s the huge variety of events that make up the festival and the fact that we have this amazing imagery on some of the most famous buildings in Australia. We’re lucky to have them here in Canberra and in close proximity,” says Triffitt.
Coming to a close for its 12th year, the team work extremely hard to deliver an amazing festival, especially during a tough last three years.
“It’s exceptional to have won the People’s Choice Awards, the team worked so hard to deliver something during Covid and it was really challenging, so to be recognised for an award like this is incredibly special,” says Triffitt.
