Mulligans flat

Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary is a protected area in the Gungahlin district. During the day It has several trails for walking, running, cycling and guided tours. Including several twilight tours for when things really come to life in the Sanctuary. Look out for nocturnal animals awakening hungrily and looking for food. More Infomation here.

Tidbinbilla

Look out for koalas, kangaroos, birds, reptiles and more while at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, just 45 minutes drive from the Canberra CBD. Enjoy the Nature Discovery Playground surrounded by idyllic picnic spots, BBQ areas and fresh open air. Tidbinbilla is a unique place to experience nature and culture. More information here. 

Botanic gardens

The Australian National Botanic Gardens is located in Acton, Canberra. The perfect place for families to visit for a great day out. It offers a range of walking trails, fascinating plants and animals, educational activities, a Botanical Resource Centre, lawns for running and playing, numerous picnic tables and a cafe and bookshop. National zoo and aquarium 

National zoo and aquarium allows families to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most amazing creatures. From lions and tigers and bears to giraffes and penguins and monkeys, the Zoo features a variety of native and exotic animals. More information here. 

Arboretum

The National Arboretum Canberra is a great place to tour forests and gardens offering breathtaking views and unique experiences, explore the multi-purpose, family-friendly walking, running and cycling trails, or let kids of all ages run wild in the popular nature-themed acorn playground. Canberra Aquapark

Canberra Aquapark has returned to Lake Burley Griffin in 2020, Get ready to have an awesome day out with friends, family or colleagues as you climb, splash, slip and slide through the giant inflatable obstacle course. More information here.

Big splash

Head to Big Splash these summer holidays to cool down in this awesome waterpark. There are nine water slides, a kiddies pool, a play pool, a 50-metre pool, Splash Island and pool inflatables to keep you going all day. More information here.

Outdoor swimming areas:

  • Kambah pool: Only 20 minutes south from Canberra’s city centre, Kambha pool has plenty of swimming options within a short walk of the car parks.
  • Urirra crossing: the best place to take four-legged friends, the only swimming spot along the Murrumbidgee where dogs are allowed.
  • Casuarina sands: With plenty of shady riverside beaches, a playground and barbecues at Casuarina Sands on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, makes this a great place for families who want to get back in touch with nature. 
  • Cotter bend: a wildly popular spot during the summer season with plenty of shady grassy areas for picnics and barbeques, also just down the road from casuarina sands!
