Minque, one of Canberra’s most successful nightspots is closing its doors for the final time – ending a phenomenal era of musical innovation and party pioneering. The Minque team will say goodbye with an event worthy of the bar’s rich history and the indelible memories it’s given our city.

Starting life as La Grange in 1989, patrons soon found the appeal of the fantastic atmosphere was matched only by that of the kitchen’s delicious Portuguese Chicken.

In 2000 it transformed to Minque, adding a more sophisticated edge to Canberra’s nightlife.

The venue quickly became a platform for launching the careers of many ACT DJs and features prominently in the history of all our major spinners.

The myriad musical styles pumping from the speakers formed a soundtrack to many cosy winters near the bar and sultry summers watching life on Franklin Street.

When The Astro Bar was added in 2004, it introduced Canberra to the concept of a club-within-a-club. Patrons now had a chillout section separate from the main area and the perfect spot for private functions or a relax away from the vibe of the dance floor.

Ever since opening night all those years ago, La Grange and Minque have offered uncompromising quality and a continually evolving bar experience.

It’s only fitting therefore, that the farewell be unlike any Canberra has seen. Friday August 21 will see the last of Minque’s Souled Out Fridays before Canberra’s longest running R&B night moves to North Bar. This brings to a close a tradition of successful R&B promotions at Minque
and La Grange extending back to the very first Mothership.

The closing party will then explode at 10pm on Saturday August 22 with entertainment by RobKay, Fabian, Pred, Richie Walton, Paul Wheeler, Downtown Brown, Rexy, Hubert, B-tham and many more. This stellar line up will ensure we go out with a bang.

Come help us raise a glass to a piece of Canberra bar history, and the tremendous legacy it leaves behind.
