Full-flavoured, laid-back, and stylish, Ballyhoo is set to bring a wave of commotion to Canberra.

The final venue to open as part of The Lawns of the Lobby dining precinct, Ballyhoo will be led by beloved Canberra chef and former owner of Temporada, Dave Young. Set to open on Tuesday 20 August, the relaxed venue promises to be a game changer for the area, adding a refreshing departure from the formality of the National Triangle.

Following the closure of the acclaimed Temporada earlier in the year, Dave says he is excited to take on the reins as Executive Chef at Ballyhoo.

Choosing a venue steeped in Canberra’s history was a deliberate move towards doing something meaningful in hospitality,” Dave says. Ballyhoo’s location in the National Triangle will attract a unique crowd on a national scale, providing an opportunity to truly stand out and be a part of the next chapter in Canberra history.

Open for lunch and dinner, Ballyhoo embraces a communal dining experience with Dave’s signature style, serving food that is perfect for sharing with friends. Showcasing high-quality produce through a vibrant combination of Mediterranean and South American influence, the menu is deliberately bold, making use of the wood-fired grill and pizza oven.

Temporada was a great chapter, now I’m excited to create something equally exciting in this iconic space. I’ve got a clean slate to explore and experiment with new food concepts that aren’t tied to people’s expectations from me, Dave says.

The venue itself provides a relaxed atmosphere where the highly strung can unwind and professionals can escape the business grind. Bathed in sunlight, Ballyhoo draws its energy from a natural source, thanks to its uniquely shaped hexagonal windows. As evening descends, the restaurant transforms seamlessly into a stylish after-hours space with its expansive bar.

Utilising both emerging talents and established icons of wine, The Ballyhoo Bar’s menu lends itself to exceptional wine regions such as Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Margaret River, and our very own Canberra backyard. Australian spirits will also be at the forefront of the cocktail list with homegrown ingredients to finish it off.

To celebrate the opening, Ballyhoo will be releasing limited ‘first look’ seats prior to the official launch in September. The exclusive experience will run for the first four weeks and give eager diners the opportunity to be among the first to dine, with a set menu curated by Dave.

The ‘first look’ experience will be available for five nights and begins on Tuesday 20 August.
