As the sun comes down, the wonders of nature come alive in Canberra’s Glebe Park as part of Enlighten: Beyond.

An immersive, family-friendly experience, each night The Nature of Things will see the park transform into an enchanted woodland through unique soundscapes, illuminations and interactive life-sized puppet performances.

Partnering with local businesses, art organisations and institutions, Enlighten: Beyond takes the illuminations and exciting experiences of Canberra’s annual Enlighten Festival outside of the National Triangle.

Led by renowned storytellers, Erth Visual and Physical Inc. The Nature of Things both entertains and educates audiences about the natural world.

“Erth has created ‘Fauna’, a beautiful new illuminated puppet specially for this year’s event. Three times each night she will invite audiences to join her in awakening the other animals secretly inhabiting the park – a Sumatran pygmy rhino, an elephant and her calf, a Himalayan white tiger, koalas, sharks and more,” says Artistic Director of Erth Visual and Physical Inc., Scott Wright.

“Audiences are encouraged to raise their voices to help sing these animals to life, but you’ll also need to listen closely. We’ve been recording the sounds of trees as they draw nutrients from the earth, and you’ll have the chance to tap into the secret sounds of the forest,” he says.

“We’re thrilled to be working with emerging young artists from the Canberra Youth Theatre for our third consecutive year and can’t wait to share this experience.”

Each night, there will be three interactive performances at 5:30-7pm, 7-8:30pm and 8:30-10pm. A free shuttle bus also runs every twenty minutes to and from the CBD and Glebe Park to the Enlighten Festival in the National Triangle.

The Nature of Things is on every night from 5-10pm until 10 March. Visit Enlighten Festival for more.
