In celebration of Canberra’s upcoming Multicultural Festival, Gungahlin’s Cypher Brewing Co. has announced it will launch the exclusive release of a native ginger beer.
Bringing together Australian Indigenous heritage and global beer traditions, YUMA! is a unique collaboration of flavours inspired by the Australian landscape and indigenous culture.
Led by head brewer at Cypher Brewing Co. and proud Indigenous member, Matty Thiele, the beer is crafted using native ingredients such as strawberry gum, desert lime and lemon myrtle.
“Each ingredient we use has a cultural significance that reflects the deep ties between the land and its people. Brewing this beer is about sharing the essence of Australia through its native plants and creating a product that connects people of all cultures,” says Thiele.
To try this whole-hearted Aussie ginger beer yourself, you’ll have to head to the Multicultural Festival from 7-9 February as it will be exclusive to the festival.
“We’re excited to share YUMA! with the people of Canberra during the National Multicultural Festival,” says Cypher Brewing Co. Founder, Jeff Wilson-Shipley. “This beer represents everything we stand for – a blend of Indigenous culture, global traditions, and the unity we find in sharing a good drink and a great conversation.”
Created in collaboration with Ngunnawal knowledge-holder Richie Allen and the team at Cypher, they will also be hosting a Native Foraging Event ahead of the Multicultural Festival on Sunday 2 February. Allowing participants to explore local nature reserves and learn about sustainable foraging practices, join cultural ambassadors in a vibrant conversation about the diverse traditions surrounding food, plants, and brewing. Then, return to the BrewPub and enjoy a native-inspired three-course meal prepared by Allen alongside Cypher’s finest craft beers.
