Beer or whiskey? That’s the question at Braddon’s latest den of pleasure – Hopscotch Bar on Lonsdale Street.

Winner of the 2014 OutInCanberra People’s Choice Awards for Canberra’s Favourite Nightlife Venue, Hopscotch Bar is here to provide you and your friends with a wonderfully laid-back place where you can kick back and take in the casual style of Canberra’s favourite dining precinct.

It’s much more than just a schooner and a dram, though. Hopscotch is very much focussed on providing a full experience of delicious, rich food and all manner of fine beverages within its warm and accommodating space.

A 1930s-feel pervades the fit-out, with retro wallpaper lining the walls. Mindful of the inner-city location, there is plenty of street art decorating both the bar’s interior and its expansive beer-garden.

Be sure to make your way through the extensive whiskey list. With traditional offerings from Scotland, Ireland and the USA, there is also a number of unique selections such – as Suntory from Japan and even a tipple from India. A good idea is to grab yourself a glass of the legendary elixir, and retire to the fantastic old church pews that line the wall opposite the bar. There’s also plenty to eat at Hopscotch. The menu makes great use of the kitchen’s Argentine Grill. An amazing apparatus that operates with a series of cranks to move the cooking surface nearer or further away from the red-hot coals below, the meat that comes off here is succulent and rich and brimming with flavour.

Try the Chicken Skewers served with mixed lentils and labneh, Korean Pork with slaw and ginger, or the wonderfully spicy Buffalo Wings that come with blue cheese ranch sauce on the side. It’s all here, and perfectly suited to a quick snack after work or a long lunch in the sun.
