The Canberra Short Film Festival is set to light up Dendy Cinema screens next month and is sure to deliver a range of short film diversity and entertainment.
The Canberra Short Film Festival supports and showcases the makers and producers of Australian short films. Its beginnings in 1996 saw Australian made short films screened as an enjoyable addition to the Canberra International Film Festival’s program.
The Canberra Short Film Festival, now in its thirteenth year, is a national competition and Canberra’s premier short film festival presenting quality regional and national short films.
Kris Kerehona, Director of the Canberra Short Film Festival is excited that film submissions are piling up fast, “we’ve received a huge number of entries so far, we even had an entry from the Australian Embassy in Poland!” said Kris.
“Every day we see more and more films and I have to say, Victoria has the most film entries, so Canberra needs to catch up!”
Funded by the ACT Government, the festival is a celebration of Australian filmmaking and is firmly positioned on the Canberra cultural calendar with its unique bohemian atmosphere, attracting crowds from all across Australia.
2008 sees a new beginning for the Canberra Short Film Festival, as local film production house SilverSun Pictures takes over responsibility for co-ordinating the event. The team of creative professionals at SilverSun have a flair for innovation, providing Canberra with film and television production for over a decade. SilverSun plans to take the reigns with new-found enthusiasm and hopes to deliver a vibrant short film season.
Kris promises that audiences “will not only pleased with the diversity of film genres but will also be very impressed with the high production values of the films”.
This year’s films include an experience into infinity, a musical, a not-so shiny girl meets girl love story and a compelling film created by deaf filmmaker who investigates living in a soundless existence.
