Spend a night amongst the candles and learn more about Canberra’s sister city relationship with Nara, Japan at the annual Canberra Nara Candle Festival. There will be a total amount of 3,000 candles at the event, bathing the Nara Peace Park in Lennox Gardens in soft candlelight come Saturday 26 October.
The Festival offers a vibrant and family friendly atmosphere, complemented by a variety of Japanese arts and crafts, such as lantern making, calligraphy, origami, and a variety of Japanese inspired market stall. The annual local festival is based upon a much larger candle festival, the Nara ‘Tokae’, which is held in Nara, Japan. This year’s event falls on the same day as the Canberra event, so we will be celebrating the relationship of peace and goodwill in unity.
There will be Japanese inspired performers, including martial arts and drumming, as well as kimono dress-up, tea ceremonies, furoshiki demonstrations from 4pm onwards, with food and drinks available onsite, offering a delicious range of Japanese inspired choices.
