11 designers, 3 years of hard work, 465 guests. Notions Fashion Parade marked the end of study for Canberra’s latest graduates of the Bachelor of Design ‘Fashion.’ It also marked something new, with each designer showcasing their fresh collections, design statements and labels.
The night saw a return to a more subdued colour palette with charcoals, whites, mochas and soft gold’s a popular theme. This was with the exception of Tegan Kennedy’s label Beau & Arrow who chose to stand out with fluoro watermelon tartan and metallic lime and silver contrasts.
The night also marked the addition of a new layout concept for the evening, with the elimination of the traditional catwalk. Instead, seating was coordinated into a trail, where the models would walk directly past each guest, inviting guests to properly admire fabrics and craftsmanship.
The new format was unique and engaging, added an element of sophistication to the event. Guests were hypnotised by the designs and silent admiration and delight hung in the air with each model that walked by.
The evening also saw the addition of a competition concept, with the OutInCanberra’s Favourite Designer competition, inviting guests to log on post parade and vote for their favourite designer from the evening.
The winning designer will receive a career kick-start compliments of The Mark Agency, including a full fashion shoot, website and fashion column on OutInCanberra.
‘OutInCanberra’s Favourite Designer 2008’ will be announced on Friday 12th December at the CIT FashionACT’s Notions Graduating Exhibition for industry @ Canberra Centre (Above Cream), entry is free.
