Organisers of the sold-out inaugural Catwalk Hairdressing Event are delighted that the show surpassed expectations to raise more than $40,000 for Breast Cancer Research, last Saturday night.

The event was a unique concept, with more than 10 local hair salons joining forces in a non-competitive format, all for a good cause.

Organising committee member, Sandra Leemhuis is excited about the success of the event, and looking towards 2010 to do it all again.

“All 600 tickets were sold out before the night and we even had people call and beg to pay more than $35 a ticket just to get in the door,” Ms Leemhuis said.

Ms Leemhuis, who is a survivor of breast cancer, said Canberra salons put in an amazing effort to create a spectacular catwalk show that was a runaway success and raised loud cheers from the crowd.

Aside from the buzz created by the models and high-fashion looks on show, Ms Leemhuis believes the success of the event lies in hairdressing close connection with the community.

“Many of our clients have or know of someone who has suffered from breast cancer and this was a great way to show you care,” she said.
