Canberra fashion brand, Blac Sneaker Co has been taking big leaps in the ethical and sustainable fashion industry, leading the way in the ACT with their stylish hemp sneaker range.

Adding to their footwear collection, they have launched a new line of sneakers made from cactus leather with recycled cork soles. A plant-based alternative to traditional leather, the cactus leather is sourced from organically grown cacti in Mexico, which requires significantly less water than traditional leather production. Cactus Leather is incredibly sustainable as Cacti grow fast and capture large amounts of carbon. This vegan-based leather is also non-toxic, as it is made without PVC. They are then constructed in Portugal with recycled cork soles, creating a comfortable and durable shoe with a low impact. And, they manage to do all this without compromising on style!

“We are thrilled to offer our customers a new sustainable option for footwear with the launch of our cactus leather sneakers. We believe that fashion should not come at the expense of the environment, and our sneakers are a step towards a more sustainable future. We are excited to offer the limited stock in pre-sale to our locals first,” says Founder and CEO, Katherine Cymbalak.

Available in both adults, kids and baby sizes, the pre-sale will allow environmentally conscious shoppers to secure their sizes, as limited stock is available.

Blac’s first hit style made from hemp and cotton contributed to planting over 1000 trees and donating over 100 shoes to people affected by the 2019-20 Australian bushfires. Continuing a similar initiative, they have pledged to donate at least 2% of their turnover to charity, environmental sustainability, or community education each year.
