Canberra is celebrating its vibrant Italian heritage with an inaugural Italian Festival, Viva Italia, running from March 28 to May 10. Inspired by the city’s rich post-WWII Italian migrant history, the festival is a cultural celebration designed to honour the community’s lasting contributions.

From food and fashion to art, opera, and design, Viva Italia invites locals to experience the beauty of Italy, with no passport required.

The city will come alive with Paint & Sip classes, Italian lunches and dinners, book launches, cooking classes, film screenings, cultural events, and the iconic Auto Italia car show. A standout opportunity includes a new scholarship for one lucky ANU student to study abroad in Italy.

This weekend, step into an unforgettable night and experience a magical Italian evening under the stars at the National Museum of Australia. Inspired by the Pompeii exhibition, the night will include live music, performances, a vibrant marketplace of artisanal goods, and authentic Italian food and drinks served al fresco.

Don’t miss the Festival Finale Gala Dinner in May, a lavish evening inspired by the 18th-century Grand Tour to celebrate Italy’s rich culinary history with dishes from the era.
