From 26 May to 17 June 2023, Vivid Sydney will fuse art, innovation and technology in collaboration with some of the most boundary-pushing artists, thinkers, musicians and culinary experts of our time. An annual celebration of creativity, innovation and technology, the festival has announced a new pillar this year… a feast for all the senses.

Vivid Food will deliver a gastronomic program of international culinary greats and homegrown stars, combined with iconic Sydney restaurants and pop-up foodie experiences.

Within the program, Vivid Residence, Vivid Chef Series and Vivid Fire Kitchen will be the biggest events of the calendar, featuring the world’s most exciting chefs.

Vivid Residence will see New York chef and owner Daniel Humm of three Michelin-star restaurant Eleven Madison Park do a two-week residency at Matt Moran’s Aria. Making headlines when he changed the entire menu of the former World’s Best 50 Restaurants number one eatery to plant-based, he will bring both his team and visionary approach to cuisine to Sydney from 6-17 June.

Pairing cutting-edge global chefs with iconic Sydney restaurants, Vivid Chef Series will showcase unique collaborative dinners with exclusive menus. This will see award-winning LA chef Jeremy Fox at Surry Hill’s rooftop Kiln, two-Michelin starred chef Rishi Naleendra from Singapore at Potts Point’s vegan restaurant Yellow, and London chef Jackson Boxer at Paddington’s farm-to-table restaurant Fred’s.

Vivid Fire Kitchen will then see globally renowned pitmasters and barbecue heroes take centre stage at The Cutaway at Barangaroo. Lennox Hastie of Sydney’s Firedoor, Australian-born Texas pitmaster and TV celerity Jess Pryles, Byron Bay’s Pip Sumbak, Dave Pynt from Michelin-starred Singapore restaurant Burnt Ends and more will be firing up the kitchen with cooking demonstrations, allowing festivalgoers to sample dishes from a curated selection of Sydney’s hottest dining concepts.

“To be recognised as one of the world’s best chefs or restaurants takes immense skill, talent and creativity. We’re thrilled at the line-up we have created for the first-ever Vivid Food program – the chefs are some of the most creative masters in the culinary space, broadening the creative spotlight from Light, Music and Ideas,” says Vivid Sydney Festival Director, Gill Minervini.

“Vivid Food will enable festivalgoers the opportunity to experience exclusive and never-before-tasted dishes from some of the world’s best culinary talent with entry points for everyone, from wholesome street food to high-end dining experiences.”

Alongside these impressive programs, Chefs on the Harbour, Vivid Rooftop Experience at Aster Bar and, following its success in 2022, the Vivid Sydney Dinner at Ivy Ballroom plus many more will all nod to the festival’s theme, Vivid Sydney, Naturally.
