After 25 years of touring and singing as one third of The Waifs, Vikki Thorn is heading to the capital as part of her own trio for the very first time this March.
Raised in Albany, Western Australia, Vikki Thorn started The Waifs in 1992 with her older sister Donna Simpson and guitarist Josh Cunningham. The group has toured the world for the last 25 years, releasing six studio albums.
Vikki Thorn’s new trio features Heath Cullen and long term Waifs bassist Ben Franz, and steps away from the folk tones of the past towards a more country blues sound. This run of shows will be the trio’s first headline shows in Australia.
She is a bold vocalist and talented performer, and has sung with the likes of Bob Dylan, Paul Kelly, Levon Helm, John Butler and Missy Higgins.
Now residing in the canyons of Utah, Vicki’s new collection of tracks represent the heartbreak and humour that come with living near Hell’s Backbone. Her songs touch on themes of travel and motherhood, drawing inspiration from the wild beauty of her current home.
Vikki Thorn is performing at the Courtyard Studio in the Canberra Theatre Centre on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 March, with tickets on sale now from the Canberra Theatre website, here.
